The SBCBM has officially launched the book and e-book Advanced Bariatric Life Support – ABLS Spanish Edition during the IFSO World Congress of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, in Santiago (2025/September)
This book aims to guide the proper assessment, management, and treatment of patients with morbid obesity who have previously undergone bariatric surgery and present to hospitals for emergency care, whether related to the surgery.
According to the project and book coordinator, Fábio Almeida, one of the missions of SBCBM members is to disseminate ABLS in emergency departments, to heads of emergency services, resident physicians, and anyone else necessary to save lives.
“Disseminating ABLS means working with a community different from our own. It is the members’ mission to bring the concepts and the manual to urgent and emergency services. If a single life is saved, the entire book and effort will have been worthwhile,” says Almeida.
All the material uses clear language and follows a format consolidated by manuals in other fields, such as ATLS (trauma) and ACLS (cardiology).
The material was developed with contributions from 45 authors. The digital version is available here, free of charge, upon completion of the form below:
